BRIEF HISTORY OF MP3

MP3 technology was developed by the German company Fraunhofer-Gesellshaft in 1987-1989. In April 1989 they received the first German patent for mp3 decoding and in 1992 mp3 coding algorithm was integrated into MPEG-1 and later into MPEG-2 standart. The first US Patent for mp3 was issued in November 1996. In 1999 Portable MP3 players appeared and on the same year record company SubPop started to distribute music as the MP3 downloads.
